Future Business Leaders of America Supports Our Community
FBLA DONATES TO FLORIDA HOSPITAL FLAGLER
Since the beginning of October, you might have noticed an increase in donation boxes at front of stores or a rise in the amount of the color pink you see. This is due to the fact that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s popularity and recognition is soaring. The members of the Future Business Leaders of America were definitely doing their part in supporting this cause, and the chapter at FPC has recently devoted a week of their work and efforts to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness - efforts which clearly materialized into success.
For each of the five school days from October 7 through October 11, the Future Business Leaders put together a different event in attempt to raise money in the fight against the disease. On Monday we encouraged students to Join the Pink Army, which is a program created by Florida Hospital to get people to spread the word about breast cancer to the part of our community that is unaware of the diseases effects. On Tuesday we set up a tent on the outside of FPC’s cafeteria, and sold pink lemonade to passing students once they were dismissed from lunch. The following day we hosted a scavenger hunt, in which participants paid to retrieve their first hint, and were then sent roaming around the school trying to figure out the next where their next clue would be. Once they bounced around from faculty member to faculty member, they eventually concluded their journey at Mrs. Soltes’ room, where the winner received a dozen cookies. A bake sale was our event for Thursday, where students had the option of purchasing cookies(with pink chocolate chips of course), yogurt covered pretzels, or a variety of candy. Our outstanding week finished with a group picture on Friday, where anyone that wore pink to school that day gathered in the courtyard. There was a multitude of students who partook in the event, which further proved that many people want to be a part in our unified effort to end breast cancer. Through our combined effort, we managed to raise an incredible $700, which we gave to Florida Hospital Flagler's Breast Cancer Funding. However, our club did not limit it’s endeavors to the campus of FPC. Our largest fundraising event of the week took place on Sunday, October 13, at Coconuts Car Wash. We had partnered with Coconuts Car Wash in the pursuit to raise more money for Breast Cancer Awareness, and from the hours to 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. the car wash agreed to donate 50 percent of their proceeds to the Florida Hospital at Flagler. With the contributions of many FBLA members who stood by the street holding signs to promoting the event, and others who passed out flyers, we were able to raise an astounding $2,000! The Future Business Leaders of America at FPC did a phenomenal job making all these events come to fruition, and should be proud of the large amount of money that was raised for Breast Cancer Awareness. |
